Narni underground

Umbria is known for its monuments, its town centres entrenched on hillsides and its scenery immersed in the greenery but there is also a more intimate, secret, underground part.

In Narni, the geographic centre of contemporary Italy, there is a city under the city which has recently come to light. It’s possible to go back in time to when Romans kept their water in deep reservoirs and let it run inside winding aqueducts, when Lombards fought against Byzantines and built completely frescoed hypogeum chapels or Benedictines created Romanesque churches over other more antique ones or finally, when the Dominicans locked up people charged with the crime of heresy in the dungeons of the Inquisition. A trip through history to relive unforgettable moments, it is an easy route for everyone.

“La Somma” Horse-riding Centre
“La Somma” horse-riding centre is one of the best riding centres in Umbria. In an extremely scenic setting surrounded by woods, valleys and mountains.

At the centre, beginners can learn the basics of horse-riding whilst expert riders will be helped to improve their style.

Junior riders can discover “the art” of horse-riding by playing games.

The stable has over 70 horses as well as ponies, which have been trained well enough to satisfy expert riders but are also calm enough so that riders that mount them for the first time, feel they can do so safely.
